Fairness and Fair trade in Tourism

Fair and Responsible Business

As guests in another country, we feel a genuine responsibility to contribute positively to Ethiopia’s sustainable development and to help preserve the beauty that makes this country so special. We do not see ourselves as a charity, but rather as a small example of how fair, respectful, and responsible tourism can be practiced. Our goal is simple: for you to enjoy your trip to Ethiopia, and for Ethiopia to benefit from your visit as well.

Local Travel Guides

We work exclusively with local tour guides who know their regions intimately. Their knowledge of the landscapes, traditions, and hidden places enriches every journey. At the same time, this creates meaningful employment and income opportunities for people in the communities we visit.

Owner-Managed Accommodations

Whenever possible, we stay in small, owner-run guesthouses and lodges instead of large international hotels. These places are operated with care and love by local families, offering more personal experiences and often more environmentally conscious practices.

Staying in these accommodations also ensures that your travel spending remains in Ethiopia, supporting local owners rather than foreign corporations.

Respect for Local Culture

Respect is at the heart of how we travel. We approach Ethiopia’s cultures, traditions, and daily life with humility and gratitude, always treating people and their customs with care.

Community Engagement

We are committed to supporting social initiatives and environmental protection efforts in Ethiopia.
You can learn more about these ongoing projects on our projects page.

Intercultural Encounters

We deeply believe that genuine encounters, where people meet one another on equal footing—build understanding and enrich both sides.
That is why many of our journeys include homestays, shared meals, and traditional coffee ceremonies with local families.

These experiences:

  • Offer unforgettable moments and meaningful cultural exchange,
  • Create additional income for host families,
  • Help families reduce their dependence on unpredictable agricultural earnings,
  • and contribute to a more stable livelihood.

Our Travel Planning: Sustainable and Fair

Sustainability guides how we design every trip. We support environmental conservation initiatives and raise awareness about the importance of protecting Ethiopia’s natural heritage.

To take responsibility for our climate impact, we automatically offset 100% of the CO₂ emissions from your international flight. The contribution goes directly to the “Ethiopia: Solar Home Systems” project, implemented in cooperation with the climate protection organization atmosfair. The project installs solar systems in Ethiopian households, providing clean and reliable energy.

Through our homestays, local families directly benefit from every journey. We also regularly visit community-based and environmental projects, such as the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve at Lake Tana. In all we do, we aim to operate in a fair, transparent, and responsible way.

Despite this commitment to sustainability, our specially designed travel packages remain competitively priced, ensuring you can enjoy your trip with peace of mind—knowing it is both fairly operated and thoughtfully planned.
